Data Source
All hotel revenue data displayed on RevenuePeak is sourced from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts through the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) filing system. Under Texas Tax Code §156.155(b), this data is explicitly designated as public information under the Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code §552.002).
While Texas Tax Code §156.155(a) prohibits state agencies from posting this data on public websites, that restriction applies only to government entities. The data's status as public information under §156.155(b) permits private entities to obtain, process, and republish it. Coverage and Updates
- Historical records on RevenuePeak date back to January 2017
- Data is updated monthly as new HOT filings are released by the Comptroller's Office, typically within 30–60 days of the filing period close
- Coverage includes all hotels that file HOT reports in Texas; properties that have ceased operations may have incomplete recent records
Data Accuracy and Limitations
Users should be aware of the following limitations:
- Filing errors. Revenue data may contain errors originating from the original taxpayer filings submitted to the Comptroller. RevenuePeak presents data as received and is not responsible for inaccuracies in source filings.
- Room counts. Room counts are self-reported by hotels in their HOT filings and may vary across reporting periods due to renovations, re-classification, or reporting inconsistencies.
- Revenue scope. Revenue figures represent hotel room revenue as reported for Hotel Occupancy Tax purposes and may not reflect total hotel revenue (e.g., food and beverage, event space, or other ancillary revenue is not included).
- Ownership records. Ownership and taxpayer information reflects the taxpayer of record at the time of filing and may not reflect current legal ownership, management agreements, or brand affiliations.
- Quarterly filers. Some hotels file HOT reports quarterly rather than monthly. Their revenue data appears as lump-sum quarterly figures without monthly breakdown, which can create the appearance of gaps or spikes in monthly views.
- Name variations. The same hotel may appear under different names across reporting periods due to ownership changes, rebranding, or filing inconsistencies.
